Hello,
Please meet me in the series “The Girl in the Mirror.”
In our Khmer culture, from the time we are young until we grow up,
our parents always teach us that when someone does something good for us —
or even has good intentions toward us, whether through actions or words —
the first thing we should do to show our appreciation
is to say “thank you.”
Sometimes we say this word out of habit,
without even thinking or feeling it deeply from our hearts,
even when what someone did for us was just something small.
So this makes me wonder…
what about the girl in the mirror?
Have you ever thanked her?
If you never have,
or if you only did it once in a while,
try turning it into a habit.
Whenever she does something —
whether big or small,
whether she did it very well or just a little —
try praising her and thanking her.
I promise you,
she will smile softly
and find new strength
to keep doing good things again and again.
